Memorial Day

A few days ago Holly reminded me that Memorial Day was coming up and that I had the day off. Somehow I had forgotten all about the long weekend and in my mind was set to head off to work first thing Monday morning as though everything was fine and dandy.

Instead of that though, we enjoyed yesterday by engaging in several fun adventures. First and foremost, Jack managed to sleep through the entire night and didn't wake up once until about 6:30am, which meant we both slept quite well. Holly fed him when he woke up and he fell right back asleep in her arms (in the bed) until about 8:45, which let me wake up, take a shower, do a few small things around the house, and figure out what we were going to do for the day.

I woke the two of them up just before nine o'clock and Holly got ready so we could make it to the movie theater for the 10:00am showing of the new Night at the Museum movie. We figured if we went really early to the first show that Jack would sleep through most of it (right during nap time) and that there wouldn't be very many people present for him to bother if he got out of control. Turns out I was wrong on the number of people who would be there as the theater was pretty full, but Jack did cooperate at least for the first half of the movie by sleeping. After that he sort of got wiggly and in the end I wound up walking up and down the side aisle with him while we finished the movie. All in all it was a fun time though.

After the movie we came home and I had to go to work for Conquer Club (it wasn't a holiday in Canada where the site is based), so Holly hung out with Jack for a few hours, and then eventually packed Jack up to go over to Julie's apartment for some swimming adventures. It was Jack's first time and from what I've been told he loved every minute of it. I'll post pictures once I get them off of the camera. I guess we'll have to go again soon so that he can have fun again.

By the time Holly got home with Jack from swimming my work was almost done and then we wanted to get something fun for dinner. We were just deciding on what to go get when Shyla and Russell stopped by with Amish Friendship Bread (my favorite) and visited for a little while. Once they left we decided on a new burger joint called Chadders that is just a few blocks away and got dinner there.

Also, all my paychecks finally came in so we were able to head on over to Babies'r'us and pick up a high chair, which is something we have sorely been needing ever since we started going hard core with the rice cereal a couple times a day. Jack was a little skeptical at first about the whole not being held while eating thing, but once he figured out what was going on he did pretty well. Now we just need to learn that chewing on the high chair tray between bites is counter-productive to the whole eating process. It sure made feeding him a lot easier though, it only took one person and not both of us, so Holly should be able to get more solids in him during the day now without too much trouble.

That's about it for our Memorial Day, hopefully yours was pretty good too!

Thanksgiving Break

I've been slacking a little bit with my blogging over the Thanksgiving break, but all is well, I promise. It's back to the grind starting tomorrow, but at least it is only 15 days until the semester is finally over. It's been an up and down semester for me, but I'll come out of it okay I'm sure.

The break started Tuesday afternoon after I got out of my British literature class, and I made it a personal goal not to deal with anything work or school related until at least Thursday because I needed a bit of decompressing. So, Tuesday afternoon we went to see Twilight, and liked it well enough, although I think it was a tad overacted at certain parts.

Wednesday was spent getting the house ready for the arrival of Jack. The crib was already built, but we needed to pack up some things and take them over to the storage unit and bring back the two dressers we had stored there for our clothes and Jack's clothes. I thought things would be a little more cramped after we brought it all back, but with putting the bed up on the bed frame again, moving a small bookcase upstairs, and the fact that the smaller of the two dressers will fit inside our closet, things turned out pretty good.

Now we are just looking to sell our love seat to make room for a rocking chair and free up a little extra space in the living room.

On Thanksgiving we spent the entire day over at Shyla and Russell's and had a great time watching the dog show, eating some delicious food (I ate far too much), playing a couple games, and learning the trick to Guitar Hero. It was an excellent holiday I think.

Friday I worked on projects for school and Conquer Club all day and got caught up, and Saturday was spent cleaning the house one more time and working on some schoolwork. I'll be doing the same schoolwork today, but at least I can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The Halloween of 1000 Miles

Happy Halloween! It's a day that I don't really do much different than any other day, except answer the door more often during the evening hours, but it's fun nonetheless I suppose. Holly is dressed up like the character Juno from one of her favorite movies, which works out perfectly since that character is pregnant in the movie and so is Holly. Me, I don't really like to dress up for Halloween, as I think I've sort of grown out of that excitement. Holly really like Halloween though, so I let her do her thing.

Today was a milestone day for the scooter as well. On the way to campus I rolled the odometer over to 1,000 total miles. That's pretty impressive for only owning the thing for 3 months. I've certainly gotten a lot of use out of it, and I think I can make it at least another week or two before I'll have to switch back to the car for the winter cold. We'll see though, I've gotten pretty good at finding ways to stay warm when the air is cold outside, so maybe I can use the scooter longer than I had originally planned.

Yesterday I got a phone call from Paul Burkinshaw. He had borrowed one of my books a few weeks ago and wanted to make sure I got it back before he forgot again. I stopped by his place on the way home from working on some stuff for Russell's class and picked the book up. The twins were there, and as I walked in the door Paul said, "Hey, wanna hold a baby?" I thought that was pretty funny and proceeded to hold Aislee (sp?) for a few minutes while Paul did something, although I'm not sure what. They are pretty cute kids, but had just had their first shots earlier that day, so they were crying in a kind of start and stop fashion. Nothing too bad though.

I had the chance to catch up with Paul and Molly, which is always good, and we set up a dinner date for a week from Sunday. That should be fun. It was last time and there weren't twins around to play with then.
