A Little Bit Behind

It looks like I am a little bit behind on my goal of 30 total posts for the month of April, but I was expecting to get a little bit behind this week due to the last few days of school and the advent of final exams. However, I have some good material, so perhaps now that my 10-page Shakespeare paper is complete, my website is fully coded, and I don't have any more finals until Wednesday, I can find a few spare minutes here and there to catch up a little bit. I know that Shelley will be happy with that if no one else is.

Today was a pretty good day for me. The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-2 to advance to the second round of the playoffs, which was something nobody expected. Also, Holly and I did a bunch of running around town to get groceries, some new blue jeans, attempt to look for shoes, and have a relaxing evening for the most part. It is nice to have cupboards that are full again after being so busy with school, work, and everything else for the last month.

The big news for the day is that I finally finished my website that has been a work in progress for the entire semester. For my CHum 250 class we had to design a 5-page site for the final project using all of the skills that we have learned so far. I have been working on mine for weeks because I wanted to do a new and improved version of my old Tournament Central website that houses all the information and statistics for my tournaments on Conquer Club. Well, the new version is finally ready to go, and you can find it here:

However, be advised that it does not work all that great when you use Internet Explorer because for some reason Microsoft feels it entirely unnecessary to keep up with the remainder of the world as far as web coding standards are concerned. At some point in the future I will know enough to code in the workarounds in CSS to make it look the same no matter what browser you are using, but for now, I advise using Firefox if you want to see the site. It also helps if you have the "Bank Gothic" font installed on your computer, but even if you don't, you can still get a pretty good experience with the default browser fonts.

It is of course a work in progress and there are another 30 pages or so that need to be added to the site, but we had to have 5 complete for the project in class, and I've got 8 or 9 so far I think. The rest of them won't be too hard to add in once I sit down and do it though. My biggest problem is that right now the site is hosted on the BYU servers and I can't keep it there forever, so if anyone knows of any good web hosting solutions or companies I am all ears. Russell has told me that bluehost has worked well for him so far with his websites, so perhaps I will take a look at them in the coming weeks.
