Well, I've decided that because I want to post every single day, or at least as many posts each month as there are days, I will inevitably wind up with some posts about daily activities and rambling. The problem I see with that is that my usual daily activities are pretty mundane, you know, the get up, go to work, eat some dinner, do something fun in the evening type of thing. With that in mind, I think it would be better to do a sort of weekly "recap" each Friday or Saturday with the main events of the week so that all of you reading Kingdom of the Hippo don't get too bored, and so that I can leave myself open to posting about less mundane stuff.
So, I've decided to entitle these weekly updates as the Weekly Wanderings and will do my best to keep them up on a regular basis if possible.
This week was pretty low key for the most part, which I am not going to complain about. With the completion of the semester, new work schedule, Holly being pregnant, and everything else I want to get done I think that having a slow week was a benefit to me at the moment. I did come down sick with a brief chest cold over the weekend, but as of today it seems to be pretty firmly on its way out the door for the most part. Luckily it never crept up into my sinuses too badly or added in a sore throat. I hate a sore throat almost more than anything else that I can think of.
The Composition Office has been terribly slow for the past couple of days now that the Spring Term is up and running with several days of class under its belt. That means I get to spend at least 6 or 7 hours a day doing pretty much whatever I want, which works out perfectly because I can practice my HTML/CSS skills, or work on CC projects all I want. I try to get in about 1-2 hours of HTML/CSS a day and then a few hours of CC in order to get those projects done before the summer ends.
Speaking of CC, one of the other Tournament Directors (Night Strike) and I finally got a bunch of small housekeeping projects finished for the tournament forums last night and made a big announcement about it. None of it is anything groundbreaking by any means, but we clarified some policies, added a couple new ones, cleaned up our Tournament Handbook, and gave Gozar, our newsletter guru, some tools to make the newsletter process run much more smoothly and efficiently. Now we are moving on to some more in-depth projects, including a large revamp of the Tournament Organizers Forum which I have insisted on doing myself. It is sort of my own little pet project if you will.
I also went over to Shyla and Russell's place for an hour or so on Wednesday to help Russell give Shyla a blessing before her surgery Thursday morning. We caught up a little bit on life, and they even let me take a test drive on the new Mario Kart Wii they just got. It's a lot harder than Double Dash which I am pretty much unbeatable at, so I guess someday I'm going to have to get myself a Wii and regain my prominence of power. Probably not anytime soon though, got to make sure the money is there for the baby in December first. That is the most important thing in life at the moment.
Reading came back to me this week as well. I have been working the the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind for a couple months now, but the most recent one I picked up, Pillars of Creation, is an absolute drag. None of the usual characters are anywhere to be seen and the plot is incredibly plodding for my taste. I have to finish it though, I'm 6 or 7 books into a 9 book series and it seems a waste to have invested all of that effort into it just to give up near the end. Of course, that doesn't mean I can't take this latest book in smaller chunks, which is what I have been doing.
Earlier this week I went and picked up the next Star Wars book I hadn't read (I'm 5 or 6 behind) and decided to read it instead for a few days. It was a nice breathe of fresh air, and now I'm hoping I can get the next couple that are all paperbacks for my birthday next week so I can catch up all the way.
